Online Classes cannot be the "new normal"

This is for all the adults who think children enjoy online classes. In this blog, I will mainly be focusing on how teenagers (such as myself) perceive online classes. First of all, staring at a screen for 5 hours a day in one spot isn’t exactly our idea of perfect and interesting schooling. IT’S MIND NUMBINGLY BORING.   All of us are going through a tough time and piling on more work to do and more material to memorize isn’t a good way to help us to cope with our deteriorated mental health. For all the ADULTS who are saying “But children will miss out on their education!” these adults don’t know what they are talking about (The word ‘adults’ is in quotes as nobody cares what children think). India is way too obsessed with exams and education and can’t be bothered to think about the stress, brain fog, loneliness and anxiety the youth is going through now. There has to be a better way of educating us. You can’t just transform education into online classes like how corporate ...

For a Cleaner Bangalore

Image
Stumbled upon this piece that I wrote when I was in the 7th grade. Quite a significant time, as that was the year that I changed schools. Here it is: Introduction  As per the survey conducted by Breathe Blue 15, the Garden City has 14% of school going children suffering because of air pollution. Bangalore is at the second place in the list of most polluted cities in India. Bangalore is in the grip of rising air pollution. Official ambient air quality monitoring has already shown 57% increase in four years (2010- 2014) and increase of 23% in one year. With more number of vehicles added everyday, the resultant congestion, dieselisation and air pollution is a grave concern for the Garden City of Bangalore. It is unfortunate to see the dominant commuting practices of using the bus and walking are taking a backseat which is leading to unclean air and deteriorating health. The way forward The solution I am proposing for the city of Bangalore would be to make Bangalore the cycl...

My Summer vacation of 2017

My Summer vacation of 2017 When I gave that last Geography paper and went home I felt excited and sad at the same time because I was leaving my school. I walked back with a water bottle (still full) , a question paper , a torn and old pencil case and some great memories. Immediately when I got back home I went on a Coke and chips marathon while watching You Tube. The next three or four days we drove to Puttaparthi , the birthplace of Sai Baba. I enjoyed the morning walks , the food and the evening prayers. Also while we were on our way to Prashanti Nilayam (the block of prayer halls and canteens) Dev (my brother) messed up the Google Maps. Then we saw a special entrance which led us directly to Prashanti Nilayam and we were overjoyed to know that there was accommodation inside! God had helped us. Anyway we returned home. Right after three or four days we were on the train to Thrissur! The first week there was great. My cousin had stayed for two days and we had a blast! Even my c...

Kindness of Strangers

This happened to me when I was in the 4th grade. We always went to Kerala to stay with my grandparents during summer. I had got a load of holiday homework from my school and I'd carried it all the way to Kerala.  I had to make a model of the solar system for my school project. I had the whole list of materials required for the project in my holiday homework. Me and my grandmother set off in a Auto with a huge bag with the holiday homework in it. My grandmother advised me to hold the bag in my lap, but I turned a deaf ear to her words and I put it in the back of the Auto. We reached the stationary shop and we paid our fare when I realised that I had left the homework in the Auto !! I ran after the auto but it disappeared into the Thrissur traffic. I burst into tears and my grandmother tried to calm me down with a bar of chocolate. We took an auto home.  That night I slept with misery- I dreamt that, I would be the only person who didn't submit the holiday homework...
